basically i want to get rid of my 1.6 driver engine and put in a 1.8 8v pb engine.

What inlet manifold do i need? my 1.6 one or does the gti one work with a carb bolted to it if you block injector holes? :S

fuel wise, will my pump and lines be ok or do i need to upgrade?

I want to use my 1.6 gearbox as wont it accelerate quicker?

, does it have shorter ratios than a gti box?

I will be using a GTI exhaust and manifold

Anything else i need to think about before doing this?

gti gearbox has shorter ratios than 1.6 so will accelerate quicker.

if you're staying carb use the 1.6 inlet mani with the 1.8 head.

are you planning to use the 1.8 bottom end too? why not go for 2.0 bottom end, or just buy an 8v GTI?

    webber

and to thegave - because my shell is MINT. no rust at all, i love the color and its mine.

I want something cheap and easy to do engine wise to get abit more power, 8v gti engines are cheap as chips :)

    cheers

Parts wise you'll just need the PB lumb, somthing to block the injector holes (like 1p pieces) and you'll probably want to run the GTi exhaust manifold and full GTi system mated to this (slightly better performance, but also the advantage of no crappy 'C' clips if you get a late one). Get some new copper split nuts to connect the manifold, these are hardly ever re-useable. GSF sell them for 25p each or something, I'd also get a head-gasket kit from GSF, you wont the head gasket but its a good way to get the other gaskets and bits and bobs you'll need.

Everything else will transfer from the old engine to the new one. If you remove the inlet manifold from your old head (leaving the carb attached to it), that'll bolt straight onto the PB head. The exhaust manifold will also bolt on, make sure you don't leave the heat sheild with the warm air pipe off as carbed cars need these.

Swap your dizzy into the PB block as you'll need the dizzy with a vac advance. If you fancy a small upgrade here get a k-jet GTi gizzy with the vac advance from a MK1 or an early MK2.

Bear in mind if you're using the GTi cam the ignition timing will be 6 degrees before TDC rather than the 18 degrees before TDC for the driver item.

The PB engine will have an oil cooler, but you may as well leave this as it should be self explanatory how it's plumbed in, if its not already connected on the block.

Might be other things I didn't think of

In theory you should do and I would, but you'll probably find it runs OK as is. To be honest I wouldn't just swap the jets I'd take it somewhere for a setup. Whereabouts are you located?
