Hello I’m recently picked up rebuilt short block 1.6 D solid lifter with 12 mm head bolts. I’m currently a Super High mileage 85 Jetta 1.6 NA in need of a rebuild. While researching my short block I realized it is a earlier version with the 22mm crankshaft nose vs the newer 31mm. Is there a significant advantage to the 31mm size in a stock NA engine. I’m mainly striving for reliability in the rebuilt engine and will use ARP head bolts. I can always use the crank out of my 85 if it’s within specs if the is bigger size crank is a lot better. I know the 1.9 engines have issues with the crank gear/bolt due to the harmonic balancer weight but I haven’t heard about any issues in the 1.6 engines. Thanks Randy
