Right, apologies for the increasing amount of Mk3 questions. I'm just finding the cans and can't of the Mk3.

Can the Gti 8V cam drop straight into the 1.8 8v engine (much like the old mk2 Gti cam into driver mod)

    Thanks

I don't see why it shouldn't fit, same design of 8v engine I think.

It will fit but will it be worth it?

That what I'm hoping to find out! Do you know if anyone has done it? How different are the cam profiles?

Pop the cam cover off and measure the lift on yours before you start, or check the haynes to see if it's got a figure in there for cam lift.

A Mk2 8v GTI cam has about 10.2mm of lift. The driver had about 9.2mm. If yours is about the same as a Mk2 driver it should make a noticeable difference.

Cheers Mike. So, lets say it had a lift of 0.75mm extra, it'd still be worth looking into?

I'll need to get a Haynes manual, I may just pop over to halfords later to browse :)

If it's over 0.5mm it's worth thinking about. Obviously the cam duration is a big factor too, but it's harder to measure in your garage, so unless you can find duration figs for your cam, then make an educated guess based on the lift.

if your car is mk3 1.8 with mono jetronic, than you can physically install the PB cam, but it was discussed here already and most of the opinions were that the engine won't work properly, cos' the ecu won't know how to cope with this cam.
