just a bit of advise as to where to start please. the car is a 1991 mk2 golf which occasionally doesn't want to start after being driven and still hot. the thing that is puzzling me is that the fuel pump is running and everything else seems normal and it only does it every now and then. the car will happily fire up again after about 30 mins. i'm a bit stuck please help
Hi Can you elaborate. Does it turn over but not fire? What is the mileage. When was the ignition switch last changed. Next time it happens, have the acc. pedal half way down and then start it. Does that cure it.
doesn't turn over at all. mileage is 141000. no idea if the ignition switch has ever been changed but would that cause an intermitant problem?
If it didntstart cold id say cold start valve But if its not starting hot its the acumulater not holding the pressure BTW has the ffilter been changed recently/regular
Hi Yes , the ignition switch can become temperamental. BUT first rule out alarm/immobiliser playing up. One other thing, can you put up a picture of the solenoid area on the starter motor. Cheers.
take a hammer and piece of wood with you, next time it happens give the starter motor a tap and see if it starts then Ive had this problem before where the solenoid in the starter was sticking, it got worse until the point where it just wouldnt start at all
yep i had this for about a year. Was the solnoid on the starter that caught fire in the end. Have it checked out. Could also be a flat battery? Check the boot light switches off when you close the boot. I had to rock the car in gear and then it would turn over. Ignition switch is cheap and easy. Press the key IN when your turn it and see if that works
