have a mk3 1.8i SE golf question (non gti)

    drives fine, engine seems fine.

however, when left standing for a week or so, on start up is rather smokey, this lasts for the first mile or so then clears up and is fine.

if started the next day is fine. but if left for a number of days will be smokey on start up.

what is this likely to be?

head/valves problem or bottom end / rings problem?

    condensation isn't smoke it's steam.

my one NEVER does this even when left for weeks and it's got 135,000 mls on the clock.
i'm glad i'm not the only wally with one of these. they look like gti's but that's about it. i'm always trying to find ways of getting that much more power from the boat.

Any groove it might be the valve stem sills if it's blue smoke, buy a second hand head for peanuts, rebuild it and when you've done that spend an afternoon pulling your one off and putting the nice new jobbie on.
