I'm trying to convert my old mans 1.0 B reg polo from points ignition to electronic. It seemed easy enough until i found the electronic dizzy (off an E reg polo)has two posts to go onto the cam and the old points dizzy has a bar across [8(]

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Also, has anybody done this conversion? and is it worthwhile?

    Cheers

I did this using a Mk1 Ibiza distributor.

Bolted straight onto a 1.3 engine with mechanical tappets- should work just fine for you also.

not really the drive is part of the shaft up the middle which is different on both types.

Mark25, as I believe it has the bar type you mention, should just bolt up! Mr. Eyre will no doubt correct me, I investigated it all, got the bits lined up etc, but never completed the job as I killed the engine by accident...

ah, so an electronic dizzy with the two round pins will fit into a can that's intended to have the offset bar type key?

Hmm not as far as I know... From my reckoning the SEAT engines use the same type of drive on the end of the cam, ie the offset slot, but use a hall sender type distributor. Unlike the later polo/golf engines that use the hall sender type with a pin to locate. Thats my take on it anyway, but dont quote me. [:$] wait for positive confirmation.
