boot will not work as a sub box unless you fibreglass it and make sure it's all sealed air tight the best idea would be to build a box for the 12" sub to the manufactures specs (ported is usually better ) and then you can build it to fit nicely into the boot of the car nicely
where did you buy the sub from? if it was from a shop you may be able to go back and exchange it (as the 10" version of the same sub is prob a bit cheaper, and they may get funny about it cause of this, you could always upgrade to a 10" of the same value. then they'd prob be more willing to help you out)
