No i dont mean donning a red jacket and steed and chasing a golf about the place!

When started from cold my mk2 16v fires up peachy but then then revs start hunting up and down for about 1 minute or so. I took it to a garage and set up the CO which was at about 6% and is now just over 2%. Still does it tho, it very annoying as you try to move off the drive with the revs going rah, ruh, rah, ruh all the time! Once warm tho the idle is spot on, doesnt stall or anything.

    Warm up reg. perhaps?

Pretty sure timing is spot on 6 deg, although im not sure if she pinks a little or if its just the exhaust (stainless).

    Goes alright [:D]

    Cheers

When you turn the key do you hear a buzz from the idle control valve? It should be clearly audible. If not, it has failed.

You could also try half a turn anti-clockwise of the idle speed screw right by the throttle body.

^^ i was thinking that too, spray some wd40 or carb cleaner about round the plastic pipe work/inlet manifold/throttle body while its doing it and see if the rpm changes.

Mine's been doing this past few months, I really need to sort it as it gets on my t1ts [:x]

Once warm it's fine and it only starts doing it on warm up after been running a couple of mins until it's warm.

I've checked for air leaks, set CO cleaned ISV and throttle body and found the wires broken on the thermo time switch and wire broken on one of the spade connectors on the head, still does it. [xx(]

I've put new injector o rings in as well. [:$]

was just thinking possible leaky injector maybe?

or tired injector seals? would be worse when cold then though i think?

dunno if its the same on a 16v but cleaning the tip of the idle screw and some carb cleaner on a cotton wool bud in the screw hole used to sort out a dodgy idle on my old 8v [:$]

It could be something as simple as the plate on the flap too high or too low. It caused my 8v to hunt.

Does the 16v have the little valve to the top of the air box? these sometimes can stick and cause hunting. Another thing that used to play up on my k-jet abit of carb cleaner sorted it.

GVk, sounds like the same problem mate!

Ive set the CO, and changed the injector O rings too, and the fuel lines and regulator, still does it!

its a right cnut of a problem, ISv is working fine as it buzzes and the car never stalls, throttle body is clean.

RAHHHHHHHHH [:x] [:x] (RUHHH, RAHHH, RUHHH, RAHHH etc)

I used to have it all the time on mine, traced it down to the o ring injector seals and the inlet manifold gasket between the 2 halves. New seals and some hylomar and all was good again

Mine hunts a bit but its got hot cams and its not too bad. It does also have a noisy PAS pump though Gary. If I have my idle set too low then when I steer it'll sometimes stall. That is annoying.

It clicks G, but I've not had a meter on it. Will check it tho.

It only seems to surge when it's warming up, once warm it idles steady as you like, never stalls or anything, it starts up cold ok, fast idle for a minute or so, then it surges until it's warm.
