yeah i though they would collapse too. sure most pipe bending places could do you 4 pipes that go from 88mm centres at one end and t-body centres at the other, you just need the bit from the 16v manifold where it changes from a tube to a flatter oval shape near the head

(showing my lack of knowledge here)

is it possible to weld the manifold (alluminum alloy?) to (stainless?)steel pipes?

how else would you go about connecting it all together?

    use ali pipes,

or use small lengths of rubber hose as connectors like alfa romeo do and most of the bike engines

Hmm, looks like he mated the GSX-R bodies to a dual weber manifold with only minor mods, looks like that could be the way forward as they obviously already make these for the golf 16v's ...

the only difference might be the distance between the two carbs bodies (i.e. the distance between ports 2 and 3).

What are the advantages of using bike bodies, as opposed to using converted webber carbs ?

nothing really, just depends what you can get, webers would be easier as you can get a manifold already

And you can map TB's obviously much more accurately.

block all the fuel inlets/jets and progressions holes, mount injectors in the manifold, fit throttle pot and there you are

    I disagree - 40's are normally fitted to 1.6's.

    I'd go with 45's.

Dont forget carbs are usually fitted with chokes, 45's are often with 36 or 38 chokes so the flowpath is actually much smaller than a real throttle body which has no chokes - 45 TB = 45mm hole.

    Cheers

    Rob

I think that's the point. We're talking about converted DCOE/DHLA
    throttle bodies.

hee hee Rob, read the thread ;)

people normally overshoot on throttle body size as they are used to sizing carbs, but without a fuel signal to worry about and no chokes, bodies can be much smaller
