Who are you insured with at the moment then, Barny? Sounds like it's an insurance company like Direct Line or something - who do brilliant prices for standard cars, but are not so kind of it's modified.

I can't remember how much I'm paying HIC to insure my 16V on a limited mileage policy, but I'm sure it was just one hundred and something. Stupidly cheap.

Apparantly their quotes are going up because of a huge claim from a Cossie owner killing several people and parylising 1 other...

Tesco's Insurance chargd me 10 extra to insure a Mk3 16v over an 8v. Tis still at 720 but for a 23 year old who's recently written off a car I reckon that's pretty decent.

I've been with HIC for the past 4 yrs and never had a problem with them until this year. I was paying 500 tpft last year on my 2.0l, agreed value of 4500 and 3 yrs no claims. They now want 570 tpft on a completely standard mk2 with 4 yrs no claims [8(]

I spoke to them regarding why my renewal was so much and they said "because one of our clients has had a large claim - 1,000,000 personal injury claim".

Their customer service is utter poo as well!

Well, I think I am due to renew my insurance at the end of this month, and it sounds like I might be moving away from HIC then.

I hope I don't end up in one of those nightmare situations where I have to wait six months to get the no-claims proof from them, or they keep sucking money out of my account, or something.

Barny -- i think it's true about the cossie mate. I know of 3 or 4 different people told the same all by different people at HIC.

Anyway, thats not the point.. i'm getting a deal that was HALF that of any other insurer. They work for me, but not for others.

Barny - have you tried Brentacre? My 16v is pretty standard but it's on a modified policy with them 'cos it's lowered a bit and so I can change it in the future. They seem to offer very good deals for CGTI members particularly, I'd give them a go. :)

My Polo is on a classic policy with HIC, looks like I might not be renewing with them from what I've just read here though...

I phoned HIC this morning asking for my proof of no claims. Their system still shows 1 yr instead of 4 yrs [:s]. Admittedly I only sorted it all out with Highways the other week, but surely their system should have been updated?!

I also hope I don't have to wait too long for the letter [:s]

Top tip when trying to speak with someone at HIC is to ring up a couple of mins before they officially open...got straight through this morning, which makes a change. Guess I caught them off guard
