    Hi All
Apologies if this has been covered before.
I am needing a new alternator for my 1991 16v.
It's had a 6a 2.0 ltr conversion, still running the KR head and k jet system.
Just wondering if anybody knows the part number and/or where to get one.
I am having real trouble trying to source one locally, and there is always about 4 different options to choose from.
The one that I have removed from the car isn't a standard one and I can't read the part number as it has disappeared from the sticker over time.
I phoned my local vw dealer and they gave me the following part number but i am unsure if this is the correct one or not: 026903017AX?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Kind Regards
    Calvin

What is the VIN # of your Mk2 - 'wonderful' ETKA is giving different part numbers based on the VIN - see link below
alternator and single parts - Golf(GO) [EUROPA 1991 year] (7zap.com)

What you need is a 65A Bosch alternator (that's what my standard '91 16V had) - looking on VW Heritage they are giving 027-903-015/XF as the part number but of course don't have one in stock - there are probably older revisions of this part number and you may be able to pick up a second-hand one (try Brendan Moss)

Yep that's why I called ETKA "wonderful' - it's a complete ballache to try and navigate it so you're best bet is probably Brendan below:

just spent about half an hour trying to put the correct one in my basket on ETKA and still no joy haha.
Thanks very much I will get in touch with him and see if he has any.
If not do you think it would be easy to get the parts for rebuilding my existing one? I am just worried that I will go through the hassle of rebuilding it and it still smokes away .
Thanks again dude your help is much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Calvin

I would contact Brendan first, better a correct 2nd hand unit than forking out for something that's wrong/poor quality - I think the 8V alternators were 55A and the 16V were 65A so it may not be an option to use an 8V unit but I may stand corrected on this.

If Brendan is a bust then I would consider re-building your unit by a reputable company - in general Bosch gear from that era is pretty robust and they're can't be too much wrong with it unless the windings have fried and I've not seen that before - it's normally bearings and or a voltage regulator that gives up the ghost.

higher spec 8v alternators were also 65a, but they dont fit 16v the fitment is different. so you need to look at mk2 golf plus corrado 1.8-2.0 16v. plus audi 16v of similar vintage, b3 passat etc
