plumb it out of the existing hole on the rear of the block normally used for the oil temp sender.

Take it off the oil filter housing, and tap into the sump for the return.

as above, you need angles like this to clear the driveshafts, best bet is to get an oil/send/return kit from the states,

Think Automotive sell the -4AN briaded oil line and fittings. The oil feed can be tapped from the side of the head. You can obtain a M10 x 1 'Tee' ( also availabe at Think Auto) to retrofit the oil temp sensor or fit to oil filter housing.
Here is an old picture with a oil feed made up from bits supplied by Think Auto.

For turbo return have a look at the sump from a a 1.6 TD aka SB code. Copy this position to yours. Take note of the RH axleshaft. Make sure your modification does not foul the shaft when installed to the sump.
Use reflective wrap on your turbo oil return.

The part number is all well and good. But I am not suggesting to purchase a SB sump. This is only used as a reference for the dump pipe location.

back in the day I took a trip to Euro Car Parts and asked to see one of their Passat "31" diesel sumps (SB).
The location of the oil drian was noted and later this was imported on an ally sump for a my turbo application.
    Modification here.
Sump turbo drain must be close to block to prevent fouling from CV axleshaft, positioned high near tin he sump, and have enough angle to miss the engine mounting bracket

    [IMG] Metal sumps similar.
Would cost less than 60 quid.

thats the thing though, the SB sump doesnt cost any more than the normal diesel sump from VAG? although if you got a gsf jobber and modded it then it wouldnt be so expensive.

As said, and as you can see for yourself, you do not have to buy a sump. You use the exsisting and modify that. The reason for suggesting a 1.6TD sump, as a reference, was to see how high VAG placed the drain intake. This is how many of us have done it ( or at least those I am invovled with).

but still, some people may prefer to buy an off-the-shelf solution, which is why I put the part number up. I'm quite aware you can make your own ;)
