Mates old man has a square shape J Plate Diesel Ibiza which is a 1700. He cant find a manual for it anywhere and SEAT say they dont know what engine it is so cant help. Some people say its a VW engine others say its a Fiat engine.. You lot got any ideas?

I expect its their own tbh, like the other engines in the range at the
time. Its the same bore and and a longer stroke compared to the 1.7
petrol, which with rudimentary maths adds up to the appropriate
compression ratio for a diesel if the other components are similarly
shaped... so very likely a reworking of the petrol lump.
