your 2.0 8v is not worth perservering with IMO, there is almost nothing worth keeping from your existing running gear and there will be so many bespoke parts needed to turbo charge the 8v its would be very expensive, plus there ain't much space as not being cross flow really dowen't help. the 2ltr 8v is doomed from the start. Siemens managment is utter cr@p too. It barely runns that standard cam!

But I'd like to be proved wrong!

for an easy-ish 200bhp use a raddo VR engine, box ECU, loom, pedal box (maybe), etc with the VSR it will make around 200bhp

WELL thats what im maybe doing .....proving everyone wrong......theres TOO many vr6 20vt 16vt etc etc etc yaaawnnnnn ,........

plus the ecu etc for the 20vt is more than id want to spend full stop .

the vr6 id want to up as soon as id put it in ....

they do it in america so why not give it a go over here

    ---------------------------------------------
thats what the vw scene is all about being different and proving people what CAN be done ..see that mk2 in the golf using peougot elecs??? [:s] ...

    its all about know how
i know where i can get the ecu mapped (and if the guys says its crap i will try another method)
i know what turbo and manfold etc to get
i know where to get intercolers etc

my brakes are 288mm so are ok..but tt ones were to be added anyway
other bits can be added to the list ....

seems no-one has any knowledge so im gonna look into it and see your faces if it goes ahead ;)

If you want to be old skool and a bit different, Rob Fairbrother has got a 2 litre 8v on carbs for sale with like 500 miles on it since big ends, mains and ARP rod bolts were done. Has had a comprehensive rebuild, 45mm Dellorto carbs. Check out www.performancevwmag.com and there is a post under engine and general discussion.

ant i think you'll find theres alot more mk3 8v gti's out there than 16v turbo conversions and even 20v conversions for that matter!

look into getting a cross flow head as it'll make fitting the turbo easier and will be better for power.
and definately take a look over on vwvortex as you said theres a fair few over the other side of the pond so you should be able to research some specs and get better answers from them

    good luck :)

As far as i am aware in the US the cross flow head was used on their Mk3 8v's1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 equivilants (please correct me if im wrong) and then were carried on to their mk4's. Over here on the other hand vw only introduced the cross flow head on the mk4's. I would therefore suggest that the US is the first place to start looking,,,,maybe ebay.com....i just missed out on one the other week that went for $5 [:^(]he wanted $100 shipping though but thats still only about 50 quid so a bargain.

cross flow has the inlets on the front of the engine, as oposed to the back (above the exhaust manifold). this reduces inlet temperatures. don't know how good the heads are, compared to a standard unit, but cooler air=more power. always has, always will do.
