Hi Anyone got any info on modifying these engines? Motorsport use preferably. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
chatting to one of the guys at Jabba a while back he didn't seem to think they were as strong as the 1.9 8v engines when it came to tuning and the emissions related stuff may well play a part in limiting their output potential.
I have heard VW have had to replace a number of the 140 16v engines, which probably suggests they are not quite as strong, wasnt actually told why they have been failing.
140's have had oil delivery problems, 170 TDI's not tunable due to the emission control being so sensitive, not saying not possible but the particular filter will clog up very quickly if your not taking it lengthly trip. IMO 140 tuned up will be so much less hassle- the basics of the engine identical
