Hi all Ive got a Audi A6 2.5tdi v6 which is due a cambelt change. has any one had any experience with these? been quote 250 just for the belts and tensioners, should i change the water pump while ive got it all apart? Any help or advice will be appreciated
now thats what i was hoping to hear..... Read in places that you need vag com to set the pump. but i think mine is to old for that its a 98 model so dont see that been a problem
we did it on a 53 plate , it had the old school pump, non pd. iirc vp44 by bosch no need for vag com on that, even though we had it
I'm mid way though one !! Awaiting water pump as it's proper leaking the 2 belts in the box are the cambelt & the fuel pump (plus Tensioners & pullys) doesn't seem as bad as I thought it might be, loads of bolts - everywhere!
if the block layout is similar to the petrol V6 id chuck a stat in there too as access to the stat is close to impossible with everythign in place and the stat is what prompted me to do an early cambelt job on the S4
The parts list is getting long.... belts, tensioners, water pump and thermostat. question..... can you just change the belts? I realise for peace of mind i will probably just change the whole lot.
of course can you just change the lot of course it will be a waste of time when the stat stops working (or is already broken) and you want to change it, or the tensioner fails and the belt falls off, the plastic impellor falls off the water pump, idler seizes and shreads the belt i dont see the point of not doing it properly. to do the whole shebang on the s4 cost me 250ish including antifreeze
I know what you are saying Mat, My luck I would skimp on say the water pump and 100 miles down the road it starts leaking. For peace of mind will be changing the whole lot.
price of the pump was 35'ish (genuine) the gasket was a pain to clean off bar the 1/4 did come off in one hit
yup, and the stat was about 14, you have to lift the pas pump to get to it all but when youve gone that far there is really no reason why not
