pug ecu? I heard about that before in CCC, never seen one before though!

arent they fully mappable from factory or something? hence being able to work any engine?

AFAIK when they go into "limp" mode they default to a conservative factory map - so you remap the "limp" map to be your main map, and run it off that. I could be entirely wrong though......

Good, my memory isn't totally gone then.....
Looks like a nice setup. You should do a FAQ about it, it'd be interesting to see how a cheapo t/b system can be done with standard ECU's......

great stuff! now this is the car kind of car I like to read about in mags. people being innovative & using a 20 pug ECU they got at a scrapyard, rather than reading about some bloke who spent 1000 on Motec Management or whatever.

Definitely! I love reading about this sort of thing. One day (yeah, right) I'll get round to building my own fully mappable ECU... But not for the Golf.

    Car looks mint!

Just goes to show that with a little thought (and no doubt a lot of knowledge) what can be achieved on a Budget !! 20 for an ECU - that is totally mad compared to the other options. Well done that man !!
