... in the centre of the disc? Im running 16v calipers with modified sliders, and basically the rest of the disc gets a good pounding by the pads except for about 1cm in the centre. The sliders were modified by a mate of mine and I dont think the bolt section at the top which was reduced was done quite flat? Could this be causing it??

Im going to try renewing the disc when I get chance. Do you think the sliders could make this kinda problem?

One of the reasons why I didn't machine down my sliders!!! Brakes are a vital piece of kit and VW made them to exacting tolerances!! Get some proper 280mm Calipers from a Seat and be done with it.

If it`s the sliders it`d be the top or bottom part of the disk, not the middle..

Best bet is to get some new slider pins modified on a lathe the get them true, but the thread into the caliper should have trued the ones you have up.

Or get the propper calipers as Dayspring said.

I`d go for either pads or disks as well, check them with a straight edge and feeler gauges to be sure.

    i'd be guessing the slider

that'd make the caliper not sit right

if the caliper was on the "slightly drunk" then the pads would wear accordingly - not leave a centre mark

*i take it your referring to the centre of the braking surface (wear the pad touches the disc)and not the inner edge of the disc i.e. where the hub is ??*

Definitely the caliper isn`t true then, if it`s not running on the inside edge of the braking surface (not the centre/middle of the braking surface).
