You've got the stack up of quite a lot of different tolerances in that area, so it's not a surprise if some of them fit an others don't

    For Example:
    1. The tolerance on caliper body size - it's a rough casting, and not machined at that point so will be quite wide It might also be located in the machine by the casting (certainly for the first machine op) so any variation in that will change where the holes are in the mounting lugs
    2. The tolerance on Disc Thickness + Pad Thickness (material + backplate)
    3. The Tolerance in the carrier brackets, mounting point on the hub carrier, etc, etc.
    4. The wheels themselves will have a fair bit of variation in the casting.

Mike, you seem to have the diea that things are made with huge degrees of inaccuracy........

What tolerance are you execting +-10mm or something??? [:[]

This is a bit off topic, but do mk3 5stud 280mm carriers fit straight onto the mk2 16v hubs??

Shoud do - but there is something that stops it working as a 5stud conversion.........

Cant quite remember what though........... [:s]

No worries, it will be fine with the 4 stud setup and the 16v calipers though wont it?

a 280mm carrier is a 280mm carrier as far as vw is concerned, no real model distinction - so should work in the usual way :)

I'm happy with my genuine VAG G60 discs, been on nearly year now, done a weekend at the 'ring, couple of sessions of Combe, track day at Donny running slicks and umpteen road miles, hardly worn [:D] They were only about 44 the pair too

Have had two sets of 280mm ate power discs and the first set lasted well, no warpping. But the 2nd set lasted about 400 miles and warped so bad they kicked the pads back into the calipers so you needed two pumps of the brake pedal to get them back on the disc.. [:^(]

Definately, the fact they came off a g60 might have been a give away.... but also now i have different wheels im now using G60 pads which are much wider than 16v pads,
