3/4 Point unit faulty ?

    No, that photo is a tad misleading, in that there is no waxstat there at all!

    Just had a look under t'bonnet of mine, there's a gap of maybe 4-5mm between the peg that spring rests on and the casting, with coolant pretty much cold. Also noticed that I can't see either end of the slot that the adjustment screw moves in, so it must be pretty near the middle, unlike the one in the pic.

    Not quite such a handy picture as I'd hoped...

    when one is fitted, how far would you expect the waxstat to push it towards the right of the picture ?

    Checked where the lever was resting while engine cold and it was about 10mm from the body of carb, could see at least 1mm of the end of the extension rod poking out.
    Looked too far out, so cut 3mm off the rod and put it back.
    Started the car and it idled , a bit low, but didn't stall.
    Gonna put a washer between the waxstat and carb body instead of cutting another piece off.
    Hopefully this will bring the idle up a bit more, by backing the waxstat rod off by about 1mm.
