    I thought I would post up how I got on insuring the MK2;

1991 GTi with 1.8 20v Engine, Garrett GT28RS turbo, coilovers, alloys & exhaust, 5k value

I'm 33, Clean licence, Garaged in BN2 postcode, limited to 3000 miles, 9 NCB but used on my daily car,

I have to fit a Cat 1 Alarm here are the quotes -

    Brentarcre - 889.99
HIC (Highway)- 492 (sounded useless on the phone)
Adrian Flux (Equity Red Star) 450
    Greenlight - NO

I've used Adrian Flux in the past and as they are the cheapest I'm sticking with them again

That's a very good price - aren't HIC part of Adrian Flux now? I didn't think they would quote against each other?

I've also heard a lot of horror stories about Flux if and when you actually have to use the insurance too...

Not sure about HIC and Flux but they both quoted within an hour of each other, I've heard horror stories about pretty much every insurance company, all robbing ba$%ards imo!

Really? considering it cost 250 to insure it as a 900 8v Gti & with the increases in insurance plus the 4100 added value and 180+ extra horses I thought 200 extra was reasonable, If any insurance can ever be classed as reasonable

Try them! Seems steep for age and driving history. I paid 230 for my 635csi, same for modified mk1 and slightly more on volvo t5 running 300bhp and lpg

I thought that was actually pretty good as my 200bhp valver is a shade under 400 with Adrain Flux, and that was for a 35yr old with 4 years no claims with 3 points with a max of 3000 miles a year.
I couldn't get it any cheaper after trying loads of insurance companies.
My mk4 150 tdi fully comp is also 375 with full no claims, and I tried everywhere to get this one down!

sounds good to me, when i spoke to brentacre regarding my 16vt they said around 900 quid, so i may have to speak with HIC when its finished.

paid 480 on a stadard passat 2.0 last year!

I spoke to Adrian Flux this week. They are sister companies now, HIC and AF.

Yup - last couple of times I've called HIC I've ended up with the Adrian Flux reception.

They are in my original list in the first post but to be honest the guy on the phone didn't fill me with confidence and they where 50 more than Flux.

funx and HIC arent ment to quote against each other... some times they will some times they wont... if your really un lucky you get the same bloke twice when you call both numbers.... but if you play dumb or in my case get poor service from the other comapny they will normally quote. some times they are cheap, some tiimes they arent. flux were cheapest when pushed for the mk2... took some haggling and calling around but got nearly 100 of the quote by they being beaten and me being cheeky, but for the daily they werent as cheap as brentacre.
