Ive read that it should spray from 1 to 8 sec and some say from 3 to 6 sec. Mines spraying 1 sec when 100% cold. How can that be ?
it should only spray while the engine is cranking, so it wont affect anything once the engine has actually fired if you're tryign to diagnose rough running when cold? the duration depends on the temperature of the coolant plus the internal heater in the thermoswitch will cut it off too, again it depends how warm the coolant is to start with. since the ambient temps are reasonably warm these days it wont take long compared to the depths of winter
as john said it only comes on for a few seconds even when cold i'd say it about 3 sec i'd be more worried if it stays on longer than that it should even start without it how dose it run when hot
I have the same problem, the 5th injector spray only 1 second and the engine not run well until it's hot... Dirty wur or something in the injection?
have a look thru this thread, ignore the 16v specific stuff if its an 8v just concentrate on basic 8v bits. plus when doing ignition timing its set at idle with dizzy vac hose disconnected and plugged: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?195423
rubjonny, thanks a lot! Strangely now it works fine without have do anything ... But i think there's something wrong with the icv: the car doesn't run on 1200-1300 rpm when i start it but it run at 950rpm circa hereupon i turn the key, hope i can fix it easily
Hi there! On the body of the thermotime switch you can read how many seconds he will open the 5th injector (for my 16v if I remember, is min 1 second, max 8)
