My girlfriend's Uncle has got one of these: droopsnoot sportshatch! I haven't seen it yet but he tells me it's great fun, it's been tweaked a bit
aha the sportshatch! same nosecone and wheels, and a crazy tartan interior! lad i know through the owners club has the original prototype sports hatch in his garage in Northern Ireland. Along with Megabertha (the baby bertha replacement) and a couple of droopsnoots!
One of my neighbours has two of these sitting in his garage, they haven't moved in about 20 years! Alan
mini update... went to do a wet/dry compression test on the car today, stuck a battery on, and was amazed, starter works, lights, indicators, wipers, washer, heater fan, everything all works! (car has been sat 10 years) compression results weren't great, but they were the same wet and dry so i'm happy it is more likely to be the head than the bottom end (head's getting replaced anyway) and i test fitted the seats - the frames need modifying but i should be able to use the original seat runners here's a couple of pics...
If your intention was to shame me into action Darren ... ... you succeeded admirably I`ll remember to take my camera next time
the lad makes a good point - there's few enough mint ones out there (hell mine's a lot more solid than most, but mint it certainly isn't)
Very nice, Dex, and right up Mr Blydenstein's Alley, so to speak. They didn't make all that many droopsnoots I think...and even fewer sports hatches (200 rings a bell) Edited by: mikehorsb
either 204 or 208 droopsnoots depending on where you read - so i'm not doing to badly by owning two of them! And yes Bill is quite keen for me to call round and visit once it's one the road!
couple more pics from a quick play today one of my sets of wheels came off my other droopsnoot (abandoned in a field for many years) you might just make out the corrosion on the rim... so rather than mess around with wet and dry i thought i'd see how quickly a wire brush will get the corrosion off pretty pleased with the result - you can see there is still some pitting in the alloy - so it will still need a good while with the wet and dry - anyone know if i can use a flap roll or anything on a drill? Edited by: dexteruk
It's worth giving a flap wheel a go even though you'll struggle to get into the corners. Are they going to be painted?
will do the centres a similar grey to the original colour - then spray the rims silver (polished alloy is just too much hassle) then lacquer it all was thinking of using the halfords "oil and petrol" resistant lacquer for the wheels, and some "steel wheels" paint or whatever for the rims.
