Here's the exhaust that was on my 8v race car when I bought it. It's 2.25" diameter but as its not mandrel bent it reduces to 2" in the bends & has a 2" diameter internal diameter in the back box.

It seemed to flow quite well & had a raspy sound. Noise wise it was measured @ 98db

I sold this & had a new Mandrel bent system made by Pipewerx in Ormskirk which is 2.25" all the way through.

This is quieter than the previous system @ 95db and along with a modification to the down pipe (trimming collector back to 2.25" & filing the insides smooth) has definately released another couple of horses.

I never did in the end; couldn't tell if it was my magnex joins that were out of shape of if the Volksbit pipe was poorly made - either way a combination of the two meant they didn't mate together easily when I tried. Never got it on the car in the end as upgrade the whole system in the end

Mine has the Volkbits straight through s bend pipe and fitted perfectly

The exhaust seems to pop really loudly once i fitted it from my 1.8 driver to the PB engine. Im thinking about going back to the standard system as its quite loud, but does sound good

Don't you have the full setup from them though?

Thread revival, but thanks for the info!
I'm a little tempted running a 268 Schrick on 1.6L, and possibly exhaust. The Milltek Classic (http://milltekclassic.com/vw.golf.gti.mk2.8v.cfm) seems a decent item with reasonable dimensions.

Danster, what were your tweaks to the 1.6? Assuming mk1 GTi based.

I would suggest a benefit by running components from a GTI Golf.

We ran a few 8vs back in the day, an I drove this to this dyno clinic that was held for the benefit of the club.

    GTI exhaust and cam.

Bar the carb and mechanical spark adv dizzy, not a bad result considering DC75s 8v GTI did this.

Hope that comparison illustrates what can be done, even though with a 1.6 you would have to walk the overall result a few torques down.

    Thank you.

I am not too stressed about the Golf having 1.6... The urquattro features Gr A & B bits and sorts the performance ways of driving. But I do love the Golf's simplicity and drive. Even if my first Golf were original KR, I can injoy my CL also - but maybe just tweaks it's basis a bit to free up its potential (alike chip tuning on newer cars).

On cams I see techtonics in US being cheap, or Schrick from Germany, both 268 degree.
There are also the GTi cam and 260 degree cams, but I suspect the latter is mainly developed for the 2.0 cross flow.

A 268 degree cam with approx 11mm lift, adjustable cam drive and possibly the Weber 32/36 replacement seems sufficient then, and doable on stock exhaust..?

    Do not forget compression.

With the Quattro as the true performance car, do not expect the set the world on fire with a little 1.6, unless you plan to throw money at it.

If the base engine is to remain stock,
I would add a GTI 8v exhaust from manifold to cold end.
GTI 8v camshaft and the Weber. That should give a relatively fun car to drive.

    Hello all.

Need a little help about choosing an exaust system for my mk1 GTI 1.6. The engine was totally rebuilt with the next measure of internals and the head has some work done also to improve power. The cam is stock GTI.

I have this 4-2-1 stainless steel exaust manifold from Supersprint with 45 mm diameter and I need some help choosing the rest of the line diameter.

I've read somewhere that 50.8mm is great choice for the 8v engine but I would like to hear some opinions about other sizes, and the pros and cons.

For the rear silencer i'm thinking this one: https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/p...r-for-golf-1-scirocco-gti-gli-gtd_GC50110.htm
For the center silencer, I really dont know, maybe just a straight pipe...

    All help is apreciated.

Sorry about the english, not my first language!

    Regards
    Rodolfo

Also, I forgot, the last compression test I made this were the values.

    1 - 12.5
    2 - 12.0
    3 - 13.0
    4 - 12.5

I simply can't find the exaust in that diameter.
    It's always 60mm or bigger.

I already got a 4-2-1 Supersprint header, but wanted the rest of it..

Aye you may find it hard to get one unless you get a custom one
Back in the day Janspeed did one for both 1.6 and 1.8
