I have started building my own workshop, I have missed having one at the house and could do with a little more storage space too. I decided to tag the workshop onto the back of the garage in a little unused area of patio. The garage has a rear door that will pass through into the workshop once complete. First up I had to dig up each slab and level the patio. Quite a lot of material had to be removed across the area. Timber and boards arrived ready for the build. I set about making the floor first. And then onto one of the sides, these were hard to make as they had to be made in the space the workshop would reside, this left little space for me to make them, they had to be lent up against the side walls when not in use. I then treated the floor and ship cladding sides with wood stain.
The two sides then were put into position, which were then bolted to the brick wall. the frame was constracted and stained as it went up. To give the structure rigidity i cut parts to brace the corners. The roof went on as the weather was starting to look a little moody, I set about applying the butimin sealent quickly As I was finishing it started to rain and has continued to do so for the last few days (very heavy at times) so I have added the cladding and chucked a tarp up until the weather drys out and I can finish of the roof. Needs to be completly dry before the felt is added.
Good job, that's a heavy frame, it won't blow down in the wind Keep the pictures coming ps I spotted the Mk1 in the background, looks good, is a thread on it on here?
It is very sturdy, does not move if pushed and I can stand on the roof without a worry, the MK1 has a FS thread here if you want to look.
I finished the main outer and made it water tight but had to wait for a good day to roof it, whilst I waited I cladded the inside and at the same time added insulation to keep me warm in the winter. I stripped and painted the door as well as adding the guttering and the felt. The gutter needed a spacer to hold it out at the correct distance, the door just clears! I also added a cheap B&Q special offer floor that will make keeping it clean a doddle. And the finished work area... The tool/project store area... In the garage i hung the bikes out of the way and boaded all of the loft area leaving two easy access points (this space is nearly filled already!) I pretty happy with it, it is cosy but the work bench is plenty big enough to allow me to tinker all through the winter
