My mate has a Passat TDI Sport 130bhp estate on a 01 reg with 63,000 miles and only gets 43mpg combined (if round town 36-39).The most he ever got combined was 46mpg. any ideas? He took it into VW and they put it on their computer and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Could you help???????????
With a heavy right foot, that's sound about right. Especially, if it's over-revved. Are those readings going off the trip computer? These tend to be inaccurate by 3-4mpg.
Sounds about right if its driven hard- I have limited experience of TDI motors, but certainly found that if I drove in my usual leadfoot fashion the economy wasn't that amazing. It'll help the economy to drive with a diesel mindset, using the midrange not the top of the rev band.
turn the aircon off and get 55mpg our pd 130 golf gets 49-55 mostly 48s with the aircon on, shift at 2.5k and ride the torque
Aircon makes little difference on my Audi as well. The mpg doesn't sound to bad for a quickly driven estate TDI, it's quite a big heavy car and the 130bhp is significantly less economical than the 115 and 110 models. Cheers, Drew.
Just for a comparison, my bro in laws 210bhp 1.9 PD diesel does around 10-20mpg on track if that and 30-45mpg on the road !
