can anyone help after crashing my mark 2 golf im on the look out for new project. i took the ABF 2l 16v engine from my smashed up golf and im thinking of fitting it in my j reg polo coupe. has anyone done this or does anyone know how to do it or if it is possible. i have the full engine, box and harness. any help would be good help. thanks
If you got the money you can do anything, can't think I've ever seen it done, probley not the easyest conversion going due to size of the polo.
polo has a fair bit of space , a friend is putting the newer polo gti engine into a mk2 breadvan, seems to be plenty of room
polo 2 dont have a subframe mounted engine like the golf does ....so lots of fabrication would be involved prob easier to sell the abf for and find a good gt lump
Its been done but your looking at 5k plus to do it. Unless you are very skilled with a welder. Cheers Dan
im pritty good with a welder and i think the golf sub frame may bolt in place of the polo. i also think the front end has to be seem welded its alot of work and i dont know anyone who has done so ill give it a go. whats the worst thing that could happen i fxxk up a polo......woopi doo no biggy there then lol
Good luck. Been done b4 but with a kr engine. i dont think the extra height of the ABF engine will fit.
can be done using a kit from a german company (forgot name) but it lowers the engine down which = sump closer to tarmac! Easiest conversion is a g40 engine,as they bolt straight in and are good for 115ish standard. the problem is finding one!
