Your not wrong there! My pigments went missing a long time ago. A bit like my brain cells. lol When I first heard the noise, I had just got it back. Definately a little daunting if you dont know what it is. S#@t the life out of me!
That Tesla badge looks like something out of the transformers movie. lol I wonder if anyone in the future will ever convert their mk2's to electric? Where you parking yours when you get it Micky?
I always assumed they would explode with that kind of power! If I had known that, I might not have bothered.
On the drive where else ? No room in my garage and its massive as big as an A8 or 7 series lol Just hope the Mrs can get around in it ok
Me too. I was shocked to hear they can actually take a beating. What did VRS say about it though. They know a thing or 3.
It's not usually rpm that kills them, but the continual taking up drive with big torque. The springs give up and the rattle like buggery.
Someone is actually crazy enough to have done so, makes for an interesting read bit clunky to read thru as you have to click thru all the blog posts in reverse order http://electricgti.blogspot.de/2010/01/so-it-begins.html
From Wikipedia In 1984 Volkswagen, in cooperation withRWE, released the second generation 'Gold citySTROMer, an electric version of the Mk2 Golf. It was the first electric Volkswagen to enter serial production as the Mk1 citySTROMER was only a prototype vehicle. The Mk2 citySTROMer had a range of approximately 31*mi (50*km) and used 16*gel-electrolyte batteries*mounted under the cargo area and rear seats. Just 100 Mk2 citySTROMers were produced and sold for 45,000DM*(~US$34,000) until production ceased in 1985.[10]*The citySTROMer name was continued in later models; the*Jetta citySTROMer*and the*Mk3 Golf citySTROMer.[11] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Mk2 interesting. Although it has nothing to do with flywheel chatter lol
aye vw did some interesting projects! people will be snapping up syncro boot floors for their electric mk2 projects in a few years
Not too much to be honest mate. Talking to me in technical terms is like talking to me in a foreign language. I had a few things done in that area, gearbox rebuild, wavetrac diff and uprated clutch. So decided to have it done as part of the "package", and if anything a preventative measure for any future engine modifications. To be honest, the noise isnt that bad really. Just a little worrying if you dont know what it is. One thing i did notice, due to it being alot lighter, you have to keep the rpm a little higher when pulling off. Stalled it a few times now, making me look like I cant drive and feeling like a bit of a plum lol Other than that and the engine spinning up a little quicker, I have had no problems with it.
Might be worth you getting ahead of your game and looking into future loom conversions! lol I guess one downfall at the moment would be the weight of the batteries. Milk floats come to mind! lol
Ah, yes, I seem to remember something along those lines being mentioned. Either way, im glad i had it done. Its one less thing to worry about.
Oh my days i know all about the 02M/Q chatter with light flywheels !! It was not so bad with Helix steel flywheel Was a lot worse with much lighter Spec ally one But oh dear it is LOUD with my twin plate clutch set up as Fly is virtually non existant !! And i am not going to begin to tell you just how bad with SQS dog box gear kit, it really does sound like it is about to spew cogs all over the place and also makes it sound as if engine has cylinders full of cutlery!!!
