Im finding it hard to decide which ECU to use to run my 1.7 16v with
individual TBs and engine speed sensor/coilpacks setup.
Im after a budget choice, so Ive been fancying the Emerald ecu for the past year
on the basis that its quite cheap other than DIY options and that Dave
Walker is viewed as quite talented.
But before I commit Id like to hear peoples experiences, I know quite a few people
on here run TBd engines, whats the prices/equipment and use like?
There are options such as DTA(850), OMEX 500/550(519) and MoTeC(bit expensive
but a good reputation), Autronic which Ive not heard much of and looks expensive
Then theres a cheap south african Gotech MFI STD from 340, anyone heard of it?

    any sugestions would be great

    TIA

Yes thanks, seen the megasquirt and other DIY ecu's
just dont trust my eletronics skills just yet
and would rather pay more at the moment for less headaches.
I also wouldnt mind traveling to an RR that specialises
in a certain unit, e.g. Dave Walker as mentioned above.
I did want to keep my OE ecu, but cant see a way of
getting it to run individual coil packs rather than the
OE dizzy, so it would mean buying a polo/lupo GTi ecu
to be mapped, not worth it IMO when I could have a unit
more easily adjustable by more people.

    Any 1st hand experiences?

in Rochdale, apparently I can keep my OE ecu that
way. Anyone any experience with them?

    Tom

i will most probably be breaking my 1.6gti unit, so if you wanted to grab the ecu off of that youre more than welcome

although the wiring for that is an absolute nightmare doe to all the excess poo its picked up with the VVT and twin lambdas/cats

it still runs a single coil though.... just not using a mechanical Dizzy

Really Bill, I keep going round in a Emerald>DTA>Chipwizard
circle, just thought of another head ache when keeping my OE
ecu, how would I be able to get it to rochdale
    (from Warrington BTW) runing dizzy-less...?
Maybe sacrificing the OE imobilizer and fault memories
    is worth it...
Cheers jez, that is an option, although Im not sure
whether my OE loom ecu plug is the same and although
I could code a key to that ECU, it would be an bottom getting
the whole lot to my work.... PROBLEMS!
DTA is looking good at the mo, Bill, does Allan Wharburton (sp)
actually map? Found no details about it on DTAfast?

    Jez,
I may as well get an aftermarket if it means hacking
my loom up for the GTi ecu, ta anyway.
Thought you were keeping it, or are you to trying to use
the MM ecu off your AFH?

    MK1.
so you think it was the engine at fault and not
the mapping? Im still stuck on getting the thing
running dizzyless to get there mind....

    Bill,
Have you heard good things of WGT in Northwich cheshire,
Iv had a few recomendations for them for DTA?
