    Right then, i layed out my loom today just to make sure everything wired up as it should, but it didn't ! [8(]

    I did take various pictures so im hoping you can help.

    Firstly, these 3 plugs - They are situated near the coolant flange when offered up to the engine.

    Now, i seem to think that the brown and black plugs above are for the knock and crank sensors, but they do not fit the ones on the engine ?

    Are there any difference's between the earlier and later ones (AGU / AUM), as the AGU i bought did have a later style cam cover, which i changed for an earlier one ?

    Here they are -

    4.

    Also the maf plug. Are the MAF's different throughout the early AGU and late AUM 1.8T engines ?

    Here is the plug on my loom -

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    And my MAF, which i was told was from an AGU [:s] -

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    As you can see above, the plug and connector are totally different,

    5. and 6.

    Another 2 x plugs im not sure about ?

    6.

    Any finally the intercooler boost sensor. I cant seem to find the plug for this anywhere on the loom ?

    I bought this pipe for the boost sensor to place inbetween the piping -

    Any help on any the above would be great.

    Cheers. Richard :thumbup:

    My AUM maf looks like the one you have there if that's any use. Most of the other connectors you have there look diff to mine - so I'd say you have an earlier loom to mine (which is right obvs).

    I'll have a look at mine tonight...

    Thanks Lewis, thats great :thumbup:

    Didn't know the AGU doesn't need a boost sensor. Will be putting that pipe in the classifieds now then as its not needed.

    Regarding the knock sensors, is there really two of them ?

    Also, im guessing that i have later style sensor plugs on my block, which will need to be changed.

    And the MAF, as Benny pointed out above. My AUM also uses this type, so looks like i need to find an AGU one now.

    Where abouts would the crank sensor be on the block then, as im guessing these two on the front of the block are both knock sensors ?

    Yep, they're both knock sensors. One bolts on the front of the block between cylinders 1 & 2. The other between cylinders 3 & 4.

    The crankshaft position sensor is inlet side of the block at the bottom right. Just to the right of the oil filter

    Thats cool then.

    The only problem is that i dont think i actually have the crankshaft position sensor fitted ? Probably missing!!

    Any pictures of this sensor :thumbup:

    The loom was from an Early A3 1.8T. 1998/99 i think ?

    The problem is it looks like the AGU engine i bought has had all the later AUM parts fitted to it - Like the round'ish temp sensor, late cam cover, knocks sensors ect, which have / will be changed.

    the maf should be 037 906 461 C sometimes ends in CX
    the one you have in the picture is a AUM as it ends with L

    i will look and see if i can work all the square plug sensors

    even if vw has dropped them you will still get after market ones

    make a list of the ones you need i'll have a look tonight

    Thanks Mushy :thumbup:

    Of the top of my head it looks like i need -

    * MAF - 037 906 461 C

    * Knocks sensors x 2 - 1 x black connector, 1 x brown connector

    * Crankshaft position sensor

    Does this plug have the following colour wires?

    Brown with blue trace
    Violet with red trace
    White with red trace

    If it does then it is for the barometric pressure sensor

    This may be the Vehicle speed sensor. Can't really see the wire colours too clear though

    ^^^ Top man, cheers Lewis :thumbup:

    Just popped around the lock up and can see the whole for the crankshaft sensor. The bolt seems to be missing too so will get a new one ordered next week.

    Knocks sensor black connector =06A905377 Knocks sensor brown connector=06A905377A
    Crankshaft position sensor=038907319

    chassis numbers up to 1j_x_999 999 use the above and after 1j_x_999 999 they use the round plugs

    I bought a complete car for 500, much easier plus i can make some money back of it when i weigh it in.

    In regards to the barometric (altitude) sensor, image/part below.
