I'm considering purchasing a Toad Ai606 alarm for my Mk2. After doing my homework it seems to be a good, basic system that suits my requirements. I've seen the guide to installing on here however I'm after a pro to install it for me for insurance reasons. I have a couple of questions: - Can anyone recommend an alarm specialist in the Southwest (Bournemouth, Salisbury, Wiltshire area) that isn't a complete muppet and will do a good job of the install? - Can the Toad system work with the standard vacuum central locking system? No biggie if not, would just be good. - Does a cat 1 reduce an insurance premium by a significant amount? - Will an fitter only install if the alarm is purchased from them (alarm would be brand new and boxed) ? Thanks
Talk to Paul at www.pjd-carsecurity.co.uk - he fitted the Toad Excel to my Golf. Quick, efficient and not expensive. He's based in Bournemouth, but came out to me. I'd suggest you buy the alarm from whoever you get to install it, because if it goes wrong, you can get them to fix it, but that's your call.
If you think you can fit it yourself then do so. Its not hard, my brother wrote the guide on here. If you do it yourself you will do a neater job with less broken trim clips etc, and it will save you quite a few quid. After fitting take it to an alarm fitting company, (say you have lost your certificate!) who can check it over and give you an insurance approved certificate of fitting. I did this about 5 years ago and it cost 20.
Thanks, will give him a shout. Getting quotes for around 250 at the moment. I wouldn't trust myself to be honest - I'm not very good with electrics
Bump of an ancient thread but no point in starting another. Managed to get hold of a brand new boxed Toad Ai606 but I really don't trust myself installing it. No problem stripping the interior down but I don't want to touch the electrics. Really after someone who knows mk2's and will do a great job. A qualified installer or perhaps a forum member savvy with wiring and alarms who wants to earn some cash?
