A while ago,i read on the corrado forum about an upgrade tb for the mk1 golf gti called a webber firebreather.
I managed to track 1 down and fitted it to my 16v engine, and noticed a huge increase in throttle response but pinking high up.
I then decided to sell it cos i needed the cash, but recently spotted a porsche tb from a 924s on ebay which looked indentical.I won it,then got my mate to fab me a manifold with flange to suit.
I worked out the standard tb butterflys have a combined surface area of 64mm and the porshe tb has a 60mm butterfly.
I havent yet fitted it but i would like your opinions and views on the idea please good or bad.
    Hers the pics

If you're running k-jet, i'd expect the initial throttle response to be improved;) to the point where it's a bit jerky around town. A bit on-off type thing.

Not sure where those area values came from [:s] but if it's smaller that the original, that surely wont help the top end.

    BTW 924s engine = 944 engine.

Fair point, but it is pretty shocking ;) & am I going mad or did you used to have a white chavved up 'raddo in ya sig?

Regarding that imlet, I've no idea but can't really see really gains to be had from it? tho prob get more low down revs urge where the 16v twin one wouldnt have opened the 2nd venturi yet?

I'm no expert on throttle bodies so had to mention something I do know something about, no offence intended if you like then whatever anyone else thinks is unimportant. :)

Pretty much my views on it.

When there's 200bhp 16v's running the standard TB, can't really see the need to go to the trouble

This is what ana merican tuning comany wrote:

This is a new Weber supplied injection throttle body kit to fit the VW Golf 1.6 GTi Mk 1 1976 on. Part number is 15550.901 This originally came from USA & uses a Redline adaptor with all necessary fittings included. Fitting is easy & instructions are included, as is the original box.

When this kit was first introduced a number of years ago the bhp increase was small, however the torque & throttle response was very noticable & became a big seller with VW tuning specialists.

I want a increase in throttle response cos i think valvers lack it

... is the important point. The mk2's got a revised (bigger) throttle body from the factory, this 'upgrade' could well be a step backwards if fitted to a mk2 [:s]

But surely if it works on a porsche which i believe is 2.2 turbo? and possibly k-jet? (dont know my porsches [:$] )
I heard about drilling a small hole in the butterfly,to ease the transition from closed to part open throttle,is this a good idea?

this is wot u call progression drilling/progression holes, used in caburettor tunning, have no idea how it works but its covered in my haynes engine management book! best to get it all fitted up and see how it is then get a carb tunning specialist to sort it for u..

Depends what 924 its off of- they did 924=2.0 120bhp 8v old slug, 924S=2.5 8v (early = v similar to 944 lump & laterly was the same engine) & 924T=2.0T 8v =the slug with a turbo on it.

i think you need to wait and see [:D]

its not all about the size remember,it looks to have a good conical/venturi type shape to it to me? so a case of wether the whole package is better than the standard set up-max air speed/max air flow etc etc...

i like the look of it,but that dont mean its gonna work

    neil.
