OK, so i've had golfs for the past 10 years, and have currently got wat is known as "the worst gti ever made!" the 2ltr mk4...

It had a nice interior which is why i bought it..anyway, the question is...

is the any decent engine mods for this cause everywhere i look, i never find any - EVER!!

not talking air filter and exhaust..the only decent thing i found was a supercharger, but the was for a USA spec engine so didnt fit on the UK model..Grrrrr..

Any ideas(other than picking the lump up and throwing it out) would be welcome..

    thanks people..

Surely if you're looking into a supercharging maybe you'd like to look at the 1.8t 20v from the golfs/audi's?

Does the mk4 2.0 have the same head as the 2.0 Beetle (AUK code maybe?).

People have fitted T/B's or Turbos to with the x-flow head but you talking a bit more dosh than a exhaust and filter.

As far as bolt on upgrades go, you aint going to see much of a gain and in terms of headwork etc you're not starting with a quick motor in the first place in the mk4 chassis, and bang per buck it just doesn't really make sense.

Engine swap or different car if you are wanting a decent power hike.

And don't forget about the brakes, eh Seraph? :p

yer, thats wat i thought..thought i'd ask if you had any other ideas..never mind...

wen i was buying the car, all the turbo's that i test drove had been ragged to fuk, so i thought id save a bit of doe on a crap engine, and insurance..

any idea on the cost of a 1.8 turbo engine conversion?? or where the best place to go is..

Following the old adage of `don`t build a car you can buy` it`ll probably work out cheaper (and be much less hassle) to buy a factory 1.8T model rather than convert yours.
There should be plenty out there that haven`t been ragged to death. As to the question of insurance, it should work out cheaper to insure a standard factory model than a converted one since the insurers will see it as `highly modified`, despite the fact that it would essentially be the same car.
