Was looking in my engine bay and found this not connected to anything. Does anyone know what it’s for and if it’s broken?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Haha,

The engine runs great with no problems but just curious as to what it is.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I don't recall anything like that around there other than the coolant pipe that connects to the top of the coolant reservoir and I'm presuming that's already there.

What is the other end of that pipe connected to?

Both pipes come from the bulkhead area. Yea the coolant pipe is secure to expansion tank.

I'd try and track them down - if it doesn't require removing the dash or a whole lot of ripping - they would appear to be too far to the right (looking from the front of the car) to be related to the heating matrix (I think anyways) and that hose seems quite large to be just left there for no reason.

With the engine running check to see if either end has a vacuum applied to it, if so you have a vacuum leak that will need further investigation. If it’s heading toward the clocks could be the vacuum to operate the MFA trip computer mpg info?

what engine is it, and do you have aircon? I see one of the nipples is snapped off the non-return valve on the brake servo hose

I think I see air conditioning components, if so it could be from the valve in that area (clipped into slots on the wiring guide across the bulkhead, just behind the coolant globe) - either from the valve itself, or the entry point to the cabin, between the two heater hoses. The Re-circulation function of the a/c system is done using vacuum, with a reserve tank hidden in the nearside wheel arch for petrol-engined cars.

looking again, i see the green plastic hose on the left has the end of the snapped non-return valve nipple in it, so thats where it went. you can block the hole with self-tapping screw & sealant then put the vacuum line on the other nipple after removing the green plastic cap

if it has aircon then there will be a vacuum nipple coming thru bulkhead for the recirculation flap, and there should be a vacuum reservoir inside the inner wing passenger side plus a vacuum solenoid valve

Hi folks, it’s an AGG with air conditioning.

I’ve took a couple of photos to see if it can be clarified further. First picture shows where the thick black hose connects to and second picture is the thin hose which I managed to follow down to underneath the washer bottle but then it disappears.

    Thanks for the replies.

ok so it looks like the thicker hose on the right of your original picture is '6' in the diagram which connects to a vacuum connection on the bulkhead near the coolant hoses to matrix, this feeds the recirculation flap.

the green hose on the left has snapped off the brake servo non-return valve, so as I say use a short self-tapping screw with some sealant threaded in the valve to seal the hole then put the vacuum line on the other nipple :)
