Basically the G60 is coming off the road to be refurbished in a few areas at the end of the summer having too much fun driving it at the mo to take it off the road. I'm getting a 100 pooter to run back and forth to work in

In the mean time thow been saving for one of these now i'm more incline to the S4 as they are more understated but i prefer the looks of the S3 [:$]

Anybody got any info on both or experience [:D]

S4 has got to be the choice IMHO: proper big engine, quite stealthy, lovely looking car. Yes please!

As standard probs the S4 but the S3 has so much more potential. Lets face it, we know it`ll never stay standard!

I plan to get an S4 this summer, but they are few and far between. There are loads of S3s on autotrader at the mo, but only about 4 or 5 S4s with low-ish mileage (60k miles or less).

They're quite hefty, weighing in at 1500 kg or so, but lighter than I expected. With a remap you're looking at 310 bhp and 370 odd lbft [:D]

VERY expensive if something goes wrong though, which is the only put off for me at the moment.

I still haven't driven either yet, so might not like either of them... still waiting for to get my licence back [8(]

It's gotta be an S4 really, I like S3's but the S4 is in another league.

    2.7 24v V6 twin turbo Vs 1.8 20v turbo

    Independent rear suspension and
Proper Quattro 4x4 system V's Golf 4 chassis and 4 motion system

I cant see how and S4 is any subtler than an S3? Ive seen plenty in the flesh; they both share all the same panels as their normal versions, only with bigger wheels and silver wing mirrors.

Granted an S4 will cost you more to run, and cripple you if it goes wrong, but these ain't the type of car you buy to save money are they?

Depends on what you want it for? S3 for style, S4 for undertstated style. Buy anyone one of these cars for totally different reasons. The sleeper with pooloads of tuning potential or thestylish one with tuneability. Do you want a sleeper or something that every boyracer would try and race you. I think both cars are fantastic but its really up to you. Both lovely motors, both have there plus point sin different ways.

S3 for me when im young or S4 when im older but want some fun.

    What a load of crap

The body panels are different on the S3 compared to the normal A3

The mirrors are an option, not standard

    And different wheels, whoopy doo[:[]

Get an S4. After 17+ years of Golf ownership (and I still own a 180bhp MK1 built over 10 years ago) I would say get the S4 over the S3. It is a car that you do not need to modify as it is seriously fast as standard. An S4 will be quicker than almost all but the most seriously modified Golfs and in the wet would be even more difficult to beat. A modifed car can be great fun to build and drive but there is always a compromise in comfort, relability and useability. The S4 is a true supercar with great specification as standard and at current prices is a bargain.
