Waiting at traffic lights, i have the auto hold button pressed, so i dont have to keep my foot on the brake pedal, engine is now off stop/start.
After a few mins the engine restarts and the car jumps forward because i dont have my foot on the brake pedal, good job i left a suitable gap from the car in front.

    Anyone else experienced this happening?

Would have thought auto hold times out. Great for pull aways on a hill.
Stop Start function will auto start with the clutch depressed assuming it is a manual and you are about to set off.

Thanks, could be it timed out? however ive had it happen in a queue on a hill, so now i tend not to stop too close to the car in front, not a very good feature, if its going too time out and smack the car in front.
    DSG box, btw.

i've only use it on a manual car can't say it ever timed out on me and with a manual car you tend to knock it out of gear when sat still so if the engine does have to restart you don't have a problem
i find with the stop/start the engine will restart if you are sat a while or sooner if the aircon or heater are on

I would say you are meant to stick it into neutral when stopped;)

The Auto Hold function offers you more convenience and extra safety. Operated via the ABS/ESP hydraulic unit, it stops your car from rolling away accidentally when standing still or setting off. When the car is braked to a standstill, Auto Hold retains the last-applied braking pressure. You can take your foot off the brake and all four wheel brakes will stay on. If the ABS wheel speed sensors detect any rolling, the braking force is automatically increased until the car comes to a standstill again. As soon as you press the accelerator again and - in the case of manual gearboxes - release the clutch, Auto Hold reduces the braking pressure.

What does your `manual` say ?

My last three VW'S have all had auto hold, all have been manual cars, this one is my first GTI. I use auto hold all the time, (dealer has recommended this, and I find it more convient) never had a problem with it in the last eight years (touch wood).

If the battery is low maybe it's restarting to keep it charged?

that's exactly what happens bud but if it was too low it would disable the stop/start till it has enough charge
    don't think that's his problem
it's the creep you get with the dsg has enough force to disengage the auto hold i'm guessing
I've not had a car with DSG so can't say if it should be like this or not
