I just call up autoglass because I need to have a chip repairedon my windscreen. The guy told me it would cost between 80-110 to fix[8(] I know I can get a new screen from vw for around 110(minus VAT) but I thought I'd see what they charge to replace it, 300[eek] So I guess I'll be buying a new windscreen to fit, just need to find some help now

Autoglass are the biggest and dearest windscreen company
ring around and you'll get it done much cheaper.
Replacing a screen on a mk2 is easythough
all you need is a piece of string..

phone your insurer and get the number of the windscreen company they use, it's usually free to have a chip repaired!

American insurance companies dont have no claims bonus'. My windscreen is pretty scatched up anyway so 75 for a new one isn't too bad

How odd - sounds like they're taking you for a ride..

Funnily enough I called Autoglass a couple of days ago with pretty much the same Q; was quoted 85.80 for "removal and fitting" of screen, and 87 +VAT for a genuine green screen from TPS.

Did you tell them it was an un-bonded screen?

It might sound odd to you but thats just how it is in america. When my wife(she's british)first told me about no claims bonus, I had no idea what it was:lol:

Pigbaldder gave me a number to a local company so it's only gonna cost 75:clap:

Didn't think to tell them it wasn't bonded

Exellent - got it sorted now?

    IIRC there are the following:

191845101A - Green tint, 84(ish) + VAT. According to TPS only two left at the factory; not sure if this quantity is local or global (i.e. whether there will be any more when they run out).

191845101H - Green tint with top tint - NLA unfortunately.

Think there are also colourless and blue tint versions, but I can't remember the numbers..
