Mate, how have you digitised your tapes? I've been wanting to do this for ages but the only device I can find is a specialised tape deck which you can hook up to your PC at a cost of 100!

I've got carrier bags full of old mix tapes from the 90s - Obsession, Helter Skelter, Dreamscape etc. which I'd love to put on CD. How do you do it?

    Cheers!

Easy peasy ! Not hard to do at all ..... it'll take you hours / days /months / years to do it !
    • Soundcard
    • Tape Deck
    • Cable (RCA - 3.5mm Jack)
    • Music Software (CuBase, CoolEdit, etc.)
Best to clean the tape deck .... perhaps buy a cheap new one.

Then using the PC Software record the Line-In input. Then amplify / de-click / de-hiss the WAV file and save in whatever format you want !

I never de-hiss recordings as it affects the audio range too much. So best to get the tape deck as clean as possible and demagnitise it if you can too ..... I do it every 5 tapes recorded.

I think it would take me 45mins to EQ and mix down a 90 tape approximately (that's because I'm fussy). It can be done quicker.

Quality is all about how good the material is in the first instance. I use a professional soundcard, quality oxygen free cable and then finish it off with an old copy of CoolEdit (easy to use). Then it is all a question of time taken to record and EQ. Easy really.
