Best grade engine oil?

    Just wondering what the best grade engine oil to use in a 1990 8v GTi is? Haynes has a few to choose from, off the top of my head 10w40 and 15w40 and a few others, and Autodata reccomends 15w40.

    Which one is best? :)

    to be honest the most commonly used by the posters on here would be 10w40

    Cheers mate, that means i dont have to buy new oil as its the same as my other car :)

    yup, at one stage i had a mk3 16v, audi S4 and 1.8t that all used 5w40. i just bought 25L drums of it :p

    and the mk3 tended to drink about a litre every 1k miles :p

    My Corsa eats oil, doesnt burn it and it doesnt leak it so **** knows where it goes :lol: Those engine are renouned for going through it though :(
