best way to remove rust ready for welding

    whats the best way to strip paint and get rid of rust prior to welding. im thinking of geting a small sand/shot blaster, or would i be better with somthing else

    Grinder or body shop belt sander.

    shot blaster you can get the sand & a gun you hook up to air~line very good way of preping a small surface.

    how much mess will a shotblaster make and is the dust 'nasty'[xx(]

    small paint strip and clean wheel from 3m/scotchbrite. attaches to a drill is purple'ish in colour and is kinda like a hard resin plastic. local paint supply store should have em and only costs a couple of quid, or as said a grinder, but be carefull.

    Wire brush attached to a grinder does the job for me.

    bit of wire brushing then use some hammerite rust remover gel of kurust to stop it coming back
