bought a F plate 16 valver last week, only problem was once I openend the bonnet I couldn't shut it, I'm now driving around on the catch. I can only drive 30mph incase the bonnet flies up. Will I need a new catch or is there something I can adjust ?

Everthing looks normal, any suggestions appreciated.

I have to drop mine from a height (needs adjustment but cant be bothered), but for a time the little spring went so it wouldn't fasten down unless you take the badge off and manually pull the plate back whilst pushing down on the bonnet.

If it is the spring then just go to a scrappy and pocket one

You can sometimes just push the bonnet release lever back into the 'shut' position in the car, then slam the bonnet and it'll shut ok. Mine used to do that, the spring was knackered.

a whole new slam lock is under a fiver and that includes a nice new spring, also it only requires that 4 pop rivets be drilled out to replace it, if u dont have a pop riveter then just use 4 10mm bolts instead

    75115 BONNET CABLE G2 8/83 >7/92 7.65.

    HAve fun.

Mk3s are pretty reliable for that, unless the cable snaps, or loosens off its mountings.... my snapped and I had a hell of a job getting hte bonnet open again...

Jsut went and got the bottom latch from VAG dealer, 10.44 plus vat, and 4 rivits 1.40.
Wanted them as soon as pos and he said he needed 5 for each to get them next day, thought bug*er that as thats 3 times the price of the rivvits and half of the latch. So went for thursday.

Does it come greased? and will i be able to get the rivvits in with a normal rivvit gun (i think thats what its called)

    cheers

i used a spring off an allen key set holder thing for mine [:D]
but i now have to jump on my bonet to make it shut, then if i do this, the cable falls out of its slot, so theres now a paper clip tangled round it to stop it falling out

oh the delicate art of bodge
