the gauge on the dash is a bit of a liar. when it gets to 90 the actual temp reported to the ecu is normally only just about 60

i would guess on the stat being dead

The Bora has a heater? Guess I'll go and look for mine!

Unless I drive ten miles or more, the heater is scarcely any better than my Golf. I solved that by taking out the bypass valve, but don't know what to look for on the Bora.

Guess I'll have to buy some thermal undies, as it needs so much other stuff sorting out (door locks, lack of power, squeaky brakes), that being freezing cold in way down the list to get sorted.

could be the thermostat is stuck open, or the thermostat housing is cracked where it holds the stat in place. read my coolant system faq :)
