For a DIY mechanic, a gunsons one is fine.

I remember seeing this website that shows how to make a DIY version here:

    http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm

Always fancied making one using a sprayer that I have in the garage & an old master cylinder cap, just never got round to doing it

That`s pretty cool. Fancy having a go at making one myself now.

I made my own pump up one with a garden sprayer and an old fluid cap. Didn't need to buy anything other than a couple of rubber washers, cost me about 20 all in. Lovely job!!

Yeah, seems to work fine! Just pump it up, then open up the bleed nipples!

Also bough a small syphon to suck some of the old fluid out before filling with new...

Was it like the one I posted in the link above?
Suppose it would be safer to attach a gauge to ensure the pressures not too great

Yes mate, well, not a million miles away! I've had a gauge on it, and it took about 70 pumps to get it to around 15psi (8L bottle to hold pressure longer)... but didn't leave the gauge on as couldn't be ar$ed with the drilling and sealing involved!
