Attempted to change my front discs and pads today on my 1991 MK2 but the bolts holding the front left calliper on were so tight i had to grind them down and use a pair of stillsons to get them undone. Went into beadles today to get some replacement bolts but they said that the standard calipers should have the smaller allen key bolts securing them whereas mine have M12 x 1.5 x 35 hexagonal bolts. The man in beadles said they didnt have any of these in stock and that it would take a few days to get them in. Any ideas where I could get a couple of these abit quicker, any shops around maidstone or dartford that are likely to have them? Also any ideas why they might be different to standard? Thanks Jamie
Dont suppose you have removed the caliper carrier and caliper rather than just the actual caliper? all the caliper bolts i have come across on mk2 are 6mm allen key inside little rubber boots... D
yep caliper bolts are hexagonal. i have in my head that i got new bolts as part of the pack with new pads?!?
aye some do come with new bolts. near enough sure my ATE's out of euro did http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350374727087
std 8v calipers that hang on the hub carrier use the allen head bolts in the rubber boots, the 256mm brakes that have the seperate caliper carriers use hex head bolts to hold the caliper to the slide bolts in the carrier
Cheers guys. I'm guessing the brakes have been upgraded to 16v brakes. Got some from the breakers in the end.
