I was lucky enough to pick up a BRMotorsport MK2 VW Golf GTI 16V a year or so ago. Unused since 1999. It came with no paperwork despite the fact it was owned by the last guy from 1996 ! (Long story). Anyway, I found the fully stamped service book in the car but I've got nothing else. The cylinder head is stamped 'BRMotorsport 9609JK'. Does anybody definitely know what the markings mean please ? I thought the 9609 could be the date the cylinder head was modified ? Could the JK be the engineers initials ? Thank you in advance everyone !
I would say you're correct in your assumption. I'm racking my brains of the JK that used to do heads....
Does anyone know what engine upgrades were available for the mk2 golf gti 16v at BRM circa 1995 ? Even better, what modifications were done for each option ? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you
Guess you need someone with the old magazine scans to post them up of the old adverts. From what I remember there was a 1.8 option using the cars original block and then 2 litre bottom end conversions with different cams.
http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?s=e0b4e4d475aff7685638041095ceed17&t=37887 Here. Apparently BR stands for Brian Ricketts (RIP) who used to work at TSR. It could be that the engines are very similar to the TSR engines.
Brian Ricketts used to work at GTI engineering with Richard Lloyd before going out on his own. I don't think he had anything to do with TSR , but I could be wrong. On the Classic Audi link it mentions BR doing heads at TSR, that is wrong as Dave Crissel did the heads for TSR.
Correct. Brian had nothing to do with TSR. Founded GTI Engineering with Richard Lloyd then set-up BRM. He was a legend
