i think people were calling c+r pricey in terms of their competitors, as in you could get it cheaper else where. As I have said in the past though, a friend of mine uses them regularly and has never been met with anything but proffesionalism and helpfullness, which is worth paying extra for IMO.

You will always be able to do it cheaper yourself, but that always depends on wether you have the facilities and ability to carry it out, if not, or you'd rather the piece of mind that its being done by someone who does it for a living then you will have to pay for it.

Popped into C&R last night to pick up my Redline MT-90 and some rear caliper conversion hoses.

Very friendly and helpful guys :)

Gave me a quote for chaning the cambelt on my ABF Cordoba, which seemed very reasonable to me. ;)

    for 1.2hrs work??? [:s] [:s] [:s]

new tens is about 12 and a good quality belt is about 8 (will check if you want)

so to recap about 20 + VAT for the bits and about 125/150 labour for 1.2 hours work....sounds reasonable to me as long as your paying for it

why would someone who was being overcharged want to recommend that garage to other enthusiasts ???????

In that case then, maybe it's not such a good price....

Didn't really know what was involved in changing the cambelt, and therefore how long it took.

Now I do know, thanks to your informative, if a little sarcastic, post ;)

Been doing some research into it, and it looks like it's a job I can DIY anyway.

my point is that why do people on this forum constantly recommend garages when they dont know if they are any good or if they give good value for money, if I was to recommend any trade I would need to be 100% sure in my mind they were as good as I thought before recommend anyone give there hard earned cash to them.

with over 20 year experience in the trade I would only let a hand full of people work on any car I owned including the ones I spent 10 years working along side at the various dealers, call me picky if you like but good quality workmanship day in and day out is very hard to find. If youve had a good experience with a garage then post your thoughts on the forum but think twice before whole heartedly recommending them to others. Im sure many of the garages mentioned in the retailers section have given good service and value at some time but many will fall well short in overall service, you could have been the lucky one but are recommending others use the same people only to find them lacking..think before recommending

Because, by recommending a company, people are making themselves
feel happier about using them. That's whether they have anything to
compare them against for value, quality, etc or not.

Which is why when someone recommends a company you should always
ask what they've had done there.

If it's a tyre change you treat that advice differently to if they've had a full
    restoration.

I get your point though, Mister Motorhead.

Just realised, I never actually recommended them in the first place ;)

I just said that they were very friendly and helpful guys, and that I'd received what I thought was a reasonable quote !! ;)

Apologies if you're comments weren't aimed at me in the first place !! [:D]

Granted, bit pricey, but does it include genuine parts? Are you sure the "book" time isn't longer than 1.2 hours? Yes it can be done the quick, but what happens when things won't budge, fasteners have been rounded off etec etc. You'd be daft to quote a quicker time, just because you can do it that fast?
