Just picked up my TDI with a custom code re-map, it has a red-line of 4500rpm and max power at 4,000 revs thereabouts. However when driving it hard, it pulls really well to 4,000 revs then dies, is this usual for TDI's or is there something wrong-i.e wastegate/N75 valve [:s]

Should a TDI pull consistantly all the way to the red-line or not?

doesnt sound unreasonable to me, especially for a little 1.4

1.9s hit peak power around 4k, peak torque around 1.9k

Yeah the car pulls from its peak torque at 2K revs upto 4K but wasn't sure why it just died after. I was thinking it was running into limp mode, but if thats how disels run then fine :)

Oh can I uprate the wastegate as the engine has been uprated from 75hp to 115hp I don't want any weak wastegates (unless they stable for that kind of boost) (18psi peak)

Prob not limp mode, as this is consistent across all rev range & illuminates dash light

im not sure about the 1.4, i know the 1.9 has the n75 w/g valve that many seem to enjoy changing.

just the way for most diesels, keep it between 2&3k and it'll fly and not drink much

Its taking me time to figure how to drive the car, as its actually quicker changing earlier if you time it right rather than revving it high. It's also returning about 50mpg with foot to the floor on boost all the time [:D]

If you have the patience to occasionally drive it without letting it get into boost, say 1,500 to 2,000 rpm, you will get real economy!

I'm just about to take delivery of a Mk5 1.9 TDI 115bhp. Revo can chip this to 145 ish. My questions are :-

Has anyone had a chip done to this model? If you have how do you find it? Worth the money?

As it's a company car - are the revo remaps really undetectable at service?

    Thanks

Fairly certain they do - one of the guys at our regional meet has a Mk4 115 for his wife that got a REVO remap - upto about 135 IIRC (?)

I just wish I could drive a standard TDI as mine's had a power hike of around 30hp from the 75hp. Hopefully I might have a little more, but want to get a rolling road done sometime.

Forge do a chip for the Golf 140 tdi

Stock ps (kw)- Chipped ps (kw)- Stock Torque nm- Chipped torque nm
    140 (103) - 175 (129)- 320 - 385

Apparently it is closer to 180bhp

I went in a Leon Tdi that they have as a pool car.
Its the same 1.9 engine in the 115 Golf IIRC. very tidy peice of kit. well worth the money.
Would have spanked my Mk5 2.0TDi
