Depends whats been fitted previously. I know the later 16v's have an auto spring loaded tensioner. I fitted a KR tensioner (manual) on my 9A, the stud that it fits onto is different from memory. 8mm vs 10mm thread

Thank you. Probably just take it apart to see what’s there then.

Took the cover off to check condition of belt. Don’t know what has caused scoring but I reckon belts not been changed for 10 years so I’ll hold off driving it until I change this. Hard to get engines for this car now IMG_5553.jpeg IMG_5553.jpeg

The tensioner on my PB appears to be constructed using a front and a back piece, there's a 'groove' around the centerline of it as a consequence that causes a similar line on the belt where it doesn't touch... perhaps your's is the same?

Glad I took the tensioner off. The nut was just the other side of finger tight

Yes it has that groove. The tensioner is SKF German build. Seems fine. Replace or not?

Kits that include the belt along with a tensioner / head stud / washer and nut aren't that much more than the belt on its own, might be a false economy not to change the lot while you're about it?

Guessing yours is similar to mine, was SKF I ended up with, appeared good quality but not many miles on it since fitting.

Yep there is a groove in the centre where the belt runs, I remember the first mk2 I had in 1995 had a seized tensioner and the belt literally cracked in half on removal.
