Am I going to see much of a difference in changing from a GS2H (270) to a Newman 276, or Should I go further? on examining the spec they arent massively different altho in cam terms they dont have to be for a big improvement.

Some will know that im currently building a 2042cc engine with all of the usual goodies. Lightened bottom end, BVH head, ITBs, (now I have a manifold sorted), running on megasquirt

The engine is built up complete, (and im sorting out the front end of the car, sub frame, bushes top mounts, etc, etc and I have to paint the engine bay once the weather warms up slightly) but something in my head says I should push the cam further than the GS2H, which is sat in the head?

The CR is around 10.7:1, max RPM yet to be set but 7000 to 7500.

The car will be used daily but i dont mind wobbly idles, as long as it not to KR like in power delivery. I only do about 14 miles a day

with that compression you can't go too wild or bottom end will be weak, is there any scope for higher compression?

    what gearing will it have?

and is the'squirt running on throttle angle or map

Something like Kent's GS3H would be good.

I had a drive in the project 2ltr a couple of days ago that I did the head for. On the standard valve sizes with it's 284 degree cam, it pulls "very" well indeed. There's a slightly lumpy idle with the K-jet, but as soon as the throttle is touched to pull away it smooths out.

Even without swinging the vernier to optimise, throttle response it instant, and the owner reports town manners on the drive to work in traffic the same as the original 1800 engine with a standard cam, so you'd have no probs at all running a similar profile (i.e.. GS3H) with more cc and t/b's.

Your 10.7 cr would be.. ok-ish, but to get the best from a cam of around 285 degrees, you need to get the cr up to where we set our 2ltr.. 11.25:1.

Don`t over cam it a 276 degree should be OK, especially as it is your road car.

Most 2.0+ 8V engines dont give power past 6800 rpm.
