    Hello,

I was looking to buy my brother in law's mk2 golf. He had someone hit the back door of the car and that is the only damage and is cosmetic damage. The insurance company has deemed it to be a CAT C write off which requires a VIC. So can i start driving the car without getting the VIC done?

Just called up VOSA and they told me I can drive it as long as it has a current MOT and insurance.

If you were to buy the car off your brother in law, when you submit the V5 to the DVLA, you won't get a V5 back.

They'll insist on a VIC before you can have it in your name.

It's a trap they set, to stop damaged stuff moving around.

thats pretty much what they told me. But I think it is still in my wife's name as he bought it off me anyway so i should be ok for the time being.
